In Ancient Eleutherna building and other findings indicate the existence of civilization since ancient times. Civilizations

2. Arkadi Monastery
Arkadi Monastery is 10 minutes (ride) from Margarites. For Cretans, this monastery is considered to be the symbol of their
struggle for freedom. In 1866, when the Cretan Revolution was declared, the leaders of the rebel forces gathered there to direct
the revolution. The leader of the Turkish troops requested that the abbot of the monastery Gabriel Marinakis (who originated from

the town of Rethymno. Anogeia is the largest village of Mylopotamos province and one of the most well known villages of Crete,
